This
is a fascinating period town house, dating from the
early 17th century and referred to in the Royal Commission
on historic monuments 1932. The front of the house is
early 18th Century, whilst the rear portion is considerably
older, the barn room, from which the house takes its
name dates from about 1612.
The house has other period features which are particularly
attractive including the very gracefully proportioned
staircase with Chinese Chippendale screens.
The Barn House was once a farm with its lands to the
west. The tithe plan of Ledbury, 1841, shows the property
with fields at the rear and the field which now forms
the garden was know as Halladine Field. From about
1860 to 1920 the building was the home of the Ledbury
Mineral Water Company.
In the late 1920s the warehouses were converted back
to residential use by the local GP Dr Jones and have
remained the same to the present day.
